Chamomile is one of the great calming sedative oils. A favorite for diffusing. Egyptian Chamomile shines in its ability to affect the solar plexus, helping us see that our needs are being met. Chamomile Egyptian seems to unclutter the mind, allowing us to get organized and then unclutter our lives. Chamomile Egyptian is used for ADHD especially in children. Wonderful for digestive issues with an emotional component. Works well for colic in babies as well as menstrual cramps.
Which Chamomile should I choose?
Butterfly currently sells three varieties of chamomile. German, Roman, and Egyptian. The German and the Roman are different plant species with similar healing properties although they both have areas they shine in. Chamomile Egyptian is an absolute made from the same species as chamomile German. Absolutes usually result in a more concentrated and complex fragrance that would be obtained by steam distillation. In fact, many plants processed this way cannot be steam distilled due to the small quantity of essential oil in the part of the plant used. This is not true of chamomile. The steam distilled oil (chamomile German) is a very concentrated and complex essential oil. It comes down to preference. I love them all.
Chamomile Egyptian Essential Oil
|Available In:||Essential Oil, Tincture, Dry Herb Pack, Blessed Water|
|Botanical Name:||Matricaria recutita, also called Chamomilla matricaria|
|Country of Origin:||Egypt|
|Aroma:||Chamomile Egyptian absolute has a somewhat different aroma - more "grassy" and herbaceous and less floral - than the distilled essential oil made from the same species that is known as chamomile German. Chamomile Egyptian absolute is a dark sage green, rather than deep blue. Sage green (and viscous) is appropriate for the chamomile absolute, but in the distilled essential oil, the depth of the blue color is an indication of the quality and therapeutic value.|
